Tom Taggart, Grenaby, Isle of Man

Scope & Content: Tom Taggart of Grenaby with his cello which he referred to as ‘The Fiddle’ or ‘Himself’. He was a tailor by trade and at one time went round from house to house making clothes from people’s own weaving. Tom Taggart was proud of the fact that he could read and write and would write wills for people if they wished. He was known throughout Malew as a wise man and a musician. He lived at Grenaby and played in the schoolroom on a Sunday for the vicar but he also played in Kerrowkeil Chapel. Tom’s fiddle is now preserved in the Manx Museum in Douglas.
