Biography: Charles Morrison from Peel was a member of the Royal Naval Reserve before the First World War. During the war, he was a member of the crew of HMS Peel Castle. The former Isle of Man Steam Packet ship was requisitioned by the Royal Navy to serve as an armed patrol boat, and she operated in the English Channel, stopping neutral vessels and searching them for contraband which might be destined for German ports. During her service she earned the nickname 'Terror of the Downs'. After the war, Morrison remained at sea as a merchant mariner. (Image ref: PG/7482/2).
