Biography: Thomas Sayle Corlett was the son of Mr R.Corlett of Carmodale, Ballaugh. In 1915 he emigrated to Australia to farm, but a year later Corlett enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, joining the 3rd Australian Pioneer Battalion. With this unit he returned to Europe, undertaking such duties as roadmaking or trench digging, as well as fighting when required. He was serving near Ypres in October 1917, when he was hit by a piece of shell, and killed instantly. (Image ref: PG/14533/1).
