Biography: Corporal James H. Skillicorn of the Coldstream Guards was from Millmount, in Laxey. He was the son of an electrical engineer on the Manx Electric Railway, and joined the army in September 1914. After he was wounded in action in July 1916, he recovered and returned to duty as a signaller with his battalion, but was badly wounded for a second time in July 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery during the First World War. (Image ref: PG/14445).
