George Lewis Ebert
Epithet: Soldier in the Army Service Corps
Record type: First World War Biographies
Biography: George Louis Ebert was born in Manchester in 1889, and was the son of Louis Ebert. On the 1911 Census, George's nationality is recorded as German, but unlike his father he was not interned and in fact served with the British army in the First World War. As a driver with the army service corps, his service took him to the Middle East. Whilst it is not known for certain that George Ebert ever visited his father in Knockaloe camp, it is recorded that other British soldiers of German descent did indeed travel to the Island to visit their interned fathers.
