Biography: Lillie Duggan was born in Rushen, and grew up in Port St Mary. During the First World War she worked in a sock factory in Douglas. A number of textile factories grew up in Douglas during the war, producing garments for the army. Those run by Emmetts outfitters and by the Reverend Copeland-Smith existed for philanthropic reasons, to provide employment for those whose livelihoods had been hit hard by the war.
