Biography: Private Thomas Henry Bell of Castletown was a grocer by trade. He served in the First World War with the 2nd/10th battalion of the Manchester Regiment. In France he was attached to an artillery battery, possibly as a signaller. He died on 28 May 1917, when whilst swimming he suffered an attack of cramp and drowned before help could reach him. He is buried in Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, near Bethune. (Image ref: PG/13743/5).
