Biography: Samuel George Nash was the son of Samuel Nash, a fruiterer in Castletown. Upon the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps, having previously been a keen member of the Castletown St John Ambulance detachment. He went to France in 1915, and served for three years on the Western Front, as a member of the 55th Field Ambulance. He was killed in action by shellfire on 8 May 1918, and is buried at Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, near Albert on the Somme. (Image ref: PG/13743/6).
