Biography: Second Lieutenant James Bainton Stowell Gell was the only son of James Gell, High Bailiff of Castletown and Douglas. Educated at Shrewsbury School and Oxford University, he was commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery. He was killed in action in France in October 1918, aged just 19, and is buried in Awoingt British Cemetery near Cambrai. (Image ref: PG/13743/13).
