Biography: Robert Christian was from Castletown, and following the outbreak of the First World War he enlisted in the King's Liverpool Regiment. He was posted to the 20th (Liverpool Pals) battalions, one of those which was raised as part of Kitchener's Army. Robert took part in the Battle of the Somme, and was killed in action on 12 October 1916. His body was not recovered after the war, and today he is remembered on the Thiepval memorial to the missing.
