Biography: Thomas Francis Hodson, of 48 Queen Street, Castletown, was before the First World War employed by Mr J.Taggart the draper. He volunteered to join the Manx Service Company, but after training with the Company he was posted away as a reinforcement to the 8th battalion Cheshire Regiment in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). Here he contracted dysentery, and returned to hospital at Poona, India. He died in the Deccan Military Hospital of influenza and pneumonia, on 19 October 1918. He is now commemorated on the Kirkee memorial, India. (Image ref: PG/13743/20).
