Biography: Second Lieutenant John Huntley Whickham Stevenson was aged 19 when he died of wounds whilst serving with the 26th Punjabis, on 5 February 1917. A member of the Stevenson family of Balladoole (one of the oldest families on the Isle of Man), he had been wounded during the advance on Baghdad, in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). His body now lies in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq, and he is also commemorated on a marble tablet in Arbory church. (Image ref: PG/13743/31).
