Biography: Eric Harold Schofield was educated at Castletown Grammar School and was apprenticed to a draper in the town, before taking up a position in a draper's shop in London. He joined the army upon the outbreak of war in 1914, enlisting in the 8th battalion Royal Fusiliers, and was posted to France. He was killed in action on 2 October 1915, during a bombardment of the trenches in the latter stages of the Battle of Loos. A comrade wrote to his mother to tell her that he had been killed instantly by shrapnel which entered his brain. He is commemorated on the Loos memorial to the missing. (Image ref: PG/13743/55).
