Biography: Thomas Cringle was born at Ballabeg. Around the time of the First World War he was working as a mariner in the employment of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and was living with his wife and son in Douglas. He was also a member of the Royal Naval Reserve, and was called up when war broke out. He seems to have spent much of the war in the shore bases HMS Vivid and HMS Spartan. Ordinary Seaman Thomas Cringle died on 30 July 1916, apparently of natural causes, and is buried in Kirk Braddan churchyard. (Image ref: PG/13743/56).
