Biography: Reverend J.C.H. Bevington was curate of St George's church in Douglas during the First World War, being ordained from the Bishop Wilson Theological College in 1917. One of his sons served in the army, whilst a daughter, Constance, was a nurse. St George's like many churches played an active role in the local community during the war, organising parcels for members of the congregation in the armed services, and providing support for families at a times of great emotional distress.
