Biography: William Henry Cowley was a member of the Salvation Army, and a plumber by trade. In 1915 he was one of those Manx civilian tradesmen who were employed in the construction of huts at Knockaloe. In September 1918 he was called up for the army, aged 46, but was granted an exemption from military service on the grounds that he was a widower caring for two children. (Image ref: PG/14483).
