Biography: Dr Percy Hampton was house surgeon at Noble's Hospital at the time of the First World War. Like many medical professionals he offered his services to the RAMC, and in 1917 proceeded on active service. He was appointed surgical specialist at Ripon Military Hospital, where he would have treated many of those who returned home wounded from the battlefields of France. Hampton had previously volunteered to serve overseas in the South African (Boer) War of 1899-1902, for which he received a medal with four bars. Percy Hampton was born at Ramsey, and educated at Ramsey Grammar School. He married in 1923, and continued to work as a surgeon at Nobles until his retirement in 1945. (Image ref: PG/14548/9).
