Biography: Age 32, Alastair King is a motor mechanic, and comes from Killearn, Glasgow. He first rode in the International T.T. in 1957, but he has had several years' experience of the Mountain Course. In 1954 he won the Senior Clubman's race on a B.S.A. at 85.76 m.p.h., setting up a Clubman's Mountain Course lap record. He has not had any luck in the Manx races. His first appearance, in the 1953 Junior, was a spectacular one, for he crashed at Quarter Bridge and his machine burst into flames - that was the picture of the year! In the 1954 Senior Manx he retired on the last lap when lying second, having broken the lap record at 87.77 m.p.h. He has ridden in eight M.G.P.s, but has never finished in one.

In 1957 he retired on the third lap of the Junior T.T., but finished seventh in the Senior at 92.27 m.p.h, winning a Silver Replica. He had several successes at short circuit meetings later in the season and on Easter Monday last year won both 350 and 500 c.c. classes at Oulton Park, doing the same again at Aintree early in May. He won the 350 c.c. class of the 1958 North-West "200." In last year's Junior T.T. he finished sixth, after lying second on Iaps 2, 3, 4 and 5, but he retired on the last lap of the Senior after lying second on laps 4, 5 and 6. Since then he has raced at many short circuits and has scored firsts, seconds or thirds at Aintree, Brands Hatch, Charterhall, Kirkby Mallory, Oulton Park, Silverstone etc. He won the 350 c.c. class of the recent North-West "200".
