Biography: Henry Francis Creetch (known as Harry) was a Lance Corporal in the 15th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was the son of Henry and Sophia Jane Creetch of Port Soderick. He died in battle at the age of 21, on 6th April, 1917 and is buried in the Field of Honour at the Savy British Cemetery in France. Prior to the war, Harry was a talented violinist at the Grand Studio, Victoria Street, Douglas. He became a member of the Carita Orchestra and also of the renowned Palace Orchestra. He was also an engineer with William Knox of Douglas. (Image ref: PG/14839).

Henry Creetch's violin ended up in Canada with his sister Ann, who gave it to my grandmother, Roma, who became an award-winning old time fiddler and was inducted into the Ottawa Valley Music Hall of Fame. - Dawn Pier Report this
