R.V. Richmond

Record type: War Memorials

Parish: German

Biography: Private R.V. Richmond.

It is with regret we record the death in action of Robert Vincent Richmond, Royal Garrison Artillery, on the 30th of Sept. The deceased soldier, who was the second son of Mr and Mrs Richmond, of Eyremount, Crosby, and cousin of Mr Ernie Richmond, of Ramsey, joined the Army when only 17, and at the early age of 19 he met his death, along with four of his comrades, as the result of shell explosion. As the first "head boy" of the Collegiate School, Douglas, his example and influence were always directed towards the advancement of that institution. It is a melancholy coincidence that his bosom friend and schoolfellow, Pte. Hunter, was killed just a fortnight previously. A fine specimen of manhood, he was always kind and considerate and beloved by all who knew him. The sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends and acquaintances is extended to his sorrowing parents. (Mona's Herald, 10th October 1917, p.3)
