Biography: John Kennish was a wheelwright and gardener. He and his cottage above Ballure Bridge, were much photographed as examples of a Manx character and his traditional home. He was thought to be the inspiration fro the character "Pete" in Hall Caine's popular novel "The Manxman", though this was denied by the author (Manx Independant 13 September 1991)
