Biography: Remembered for his love of teaching. A good scholar and well known in the literary world. Contributed a large part to the Manx Bible helping with its translation into Manx Gaelic.

Moore, Revd Phillip. B Douglas 5/9/1705; educated at Douglas Grammar school. Make Deacon 20/4/1729. Priest 23/9/1739 in St Matthews; afterwards Curate at Bride and Marown. He became Chaplin of St Matthew’s and Master of Douglas Grammar School 1736-65. Rector of Ballaugh 1751-60 and Rector of Bride 1760 until his death at Douglas 22/1/1783 after a few hours illness; buried Braddan 25/01, all the Island clergy attending his funeral; his wife died in 1768; a very good classical scholar; did most of the work in producing the Manx Bible; work which ruined his health which was not good after 1773; before ordination he had studied with Bishop Wilson; Chaplain to the various Bishops and to the 3rd Duke of Atholl; Non-resident at Ballaugh and Bride, the parishes being run by Curates.”
