Biography: Francis Ryland lived at 48 Queen Street, Castletown. He was born at Longdon, Worcestershire around 1860 and was working on the Isle of Man as a coachman. During the First World War he served with the Isle of Man Volunteers, undertaking duty as a guard at internment camps on the Island. He died in 1921 and was buried in Malew churchyard. During the First World War his son also enlisted in the Isle of Man Volunteers, and served with the Manx Service Company. (Image ref: PG/6671/1).
