Scope & Content: Handwritten minutes taken by John Goldsmith of the proceedings of a commission appointed by the Lt Governor on 19 December 1876. Those involved were to make enquiry as to the number and position of runic stones, treen chapels, tumuli, barrows, stone circles and crosses, scultured slabs or stones inscribed slabs, and other ancient monuments, coins, ornaments and ancient instruments of war or husbandy. The first meeting was held on 2 January 1877. Present were Messrs J.K. Jeffcott, R.J. Moore, Rev W Kermode, John J Crellin, W.B. Stevenson, John Goldsmith and W Kneale. Volume contains pasted in press cuttings concerning the findings of the commission. The last entry is dated 7 March 1878.
