Administration / Biographical History: Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby (1435-1504) was an English nobleman and the last ruler of the Isle of Man to use the title "King of Mann". He had vast wealth and power, primarily in the northwest of England, and managed to maintain favour with successive kings throughout the War of the Roses (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography).
