Scope & Content: Harley Quilliam talks to Louise Quirk about computers. Louise starts by mentioning an announcement last year regarding Harley Quilliam who had just attained his MSc at Surrey University; she introduces Harley as the son of John Quilliam, presenter of 'Know Your Parish' and talks about Harley's life so far and his experience in computers.

Harley talks about achieving his qualifications in computing; working for the Central Electricity Generating Board in their Leatherhead Research Laboratory; working on electronic controls for the National Grid; how the National Grid of England and Wales works and how computers help with its management; the link between the Meteorological Office and the National Grid; the experimental computer in Bristol and how it controls power stations; his computing research at the University of Surrey; his schooldays in the Radio Club at Castle Rushen High School and how that started his interest in electronics when computers were very new; working towards his PhD.
