Quine's Corner, Douglas
Date(s): 1912
Scope & Content: Stuart Slack's book 'Streets of Douglas' has the folloing to say: "Samuel Quine is recorded as having property in this area as early as 1797, and it was certainly known as Sam Quine's Corner in 1846. When Lord Street was being constructed in 1932 and the flats were replacing the mish-mash of cottages that formed Big Well Street, there was a move afoot to incorporate the corner with Queen Street but this was resisted and Sam Quine's name lives on" Slack (1996) Streets of Douglas old and new.The Manx Experience. Cool pic, congrats to the dedicated keepers of records at the Isle of Man Museum! It would be great to also know a little more about Samuel Quine, after whom the corner was named. - Brett Quine Report this
