Date(s): n.d. [1932-1934]
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, '(Reminiscent of McNeill) A quiet backwater. McNeill's Terrace is at the back of this. To get. Coal & salt merchant on the S. Quay about 1880. Gaunt, cadaverous individual. Well remember him, seeing him in Hines' the Grocer, corner of Brisbane St. by Spring Gardens (in the late seventies) - up some steps - surreptiously [sic] but leisurely, absorbing a tot of rum, in an angle behind the door. Shebeening was common then. I often had to go there as a boy for groceries, & on most visits, George was in behind the door. Hines was an old Army man, with enthralling yarns. Mutiny experiences in India'.
