Plan and survey of Laxey Glen Garden the property of Robert Williamson Esq
Date(s): 1886
Creator(s): Bintley, Arthur N.
Place made: Laxey
Scope & Content: The colour plan shows the lay out of the garden and buildings, roads, Glen Roy river and Mill race.
Administration / Biographical History: Initial planting of Laxey glen began in 1800 by the Reverend William Fitzsimmons. In March 1886 Robert Williamson took over ownership and the pleasure ground for which the gardens were so well known came into existence.
The years between the two world wars saw the gardens at their height of popularity. After the Second World War the number of visitors declined dramatically. In 1956 the glen was purchased by the Forestry Mines and Lands Board. Over subsequent years the formal appearance of the glen has been changed to develop the more natural woodland environment enjoyed today.
