Colour copy of text of speech prepared by Ordnance Survey employee William Angus, recounting his experiences 1864-1872 including his time on the Isle of Man, March to November 1867

Date(s): 1860s

Creator(s): Angus, William

Scope & Content: Angus describes his journey to the Island from Liverpool in a south westerly gale. His comments are quite sketchy in character and appear designed to entertain or otherwise engage his audience. He writes, ‘I must also mention the tailless dogs and cats. I have seen the latter being deprived of their tails and sold to visitors as the real Manx cat’. He also describes coming across the noise of earnest prayer at a Primitive Methodist service at an unnamed chapel.
