Administration / Biographical History: John Barron was a grocer who owned two stores in Douglas and one in Peel. Although not born on the island, he was a well-respected man within the Douglas community. His political views were liberal. He had an interest in young people and education with sports being his main interest and swimming being the main sport. Barron was a member of Douglas School Board and the educational parliament. He was also a member of Douglas Town Council and advocated for the improvement and extension of the sewerage of Douglas. He died at home at the age of 54 on 27 November 1900 after suffering from a serious asthma attack.
