Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from the Home Secretary, Lord Sidmouth, enclosing a copy of Dr. John William Jeffcott's commission, appointing him to the office of Surgeon to the Household on the Isle of Man; Lord Sidmouth goes on to state that he believes the Duke of Atholl is under the misconception that Jeffcott was not appointed before His Grace's own appointee, Dr. Henry Robert Oswald, in December 1812, and Lord Sidmouth hopes the enclosed commission will clear up this misunderstanding; the original commission for Jeffcott is dated 28 March 1812.
