Isle of Man mining related papers collated by William Kitto Senior and William Henry Kitto, successive Captains of the Foxdale Mines

Scope & Content: Contents include but are not limited to correspondence, financial accounts, reports, newscuttings and other documentation.

Of the handwritten Foxdale mines reports by Matthew Grose and William Jones (January 1843-November 1844), some are transcribed; draft list of profits and losses of certain Manx mines from 1838; a printed summary of expenditure on wages, materials and stores for the year ending 30 June 1899, Isle of Man Mining Company reports of 39th and 43rd Annual General Meetings held in Chester in 1982 and 1896 reprinted from the Isle of Man Times, and copy letters from Kitto, 1907-1909, letter from the Secretary of the Isle of Man Mining Co Ltd to W H Kitto regarding a drop in wages to the men given the company's financial situation, 7 December 1910; correspondence between W H Kitto, Union Mills and W Forster Brown, Cardiff regarding Foxdale mines and Kitto's preference to sink the main shaft further down, January 1911.

Also present are draft Articles of Association of Rushen Mining Company Ltd (William Kitto is named a director p16), a printed pamphlet of the plan and section and schedule of plant of Glen Rushen Mine and printed report of directors and statement of accounts year ending 31 December 1888 for the Foxdale Railway Company (12,182 tons 12cwts of minerals and merchandise transported).

Newscuttings refer to mining developments in Foxdale and elsewhere; also Kitto family news.

Keepsakes include a Foxdale Harvest Home Tea Festival and Concert programme (annotated) of 25 October 1895, a Foxdale Village Bachelors Concert programme of 24 February 1899 (another copy in Manx printed collection) and two tickets for the Kitto silver wedding presentation tea and concert to be held in the Foxdale Schools on 23 March 1901.
