Stable in New Bond Street, Douglas

Date(s): 1932-1934

Creator(s): Frowde, John James

Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Stable, New Bond Street, and end of 8 Seneschal Lane at rear. Passage passed under these two, or more probably alongside. Yes- more to the east. See inside. [Inside folder marked 1 and wall of cellar N, centre, and 2, centre right]. This shows that the tunnel passed clear of the stable and the cottage no.8- more to the east and under the site of the old Ramsey Inn. Alter this on Mr. Teare's Plan. The Shore boulders of the tunnel walls are more clearly seen in this photo. Also alter the route of this tunnel on the plan as almost, if not altogether crossing under New Bond Street. At no.1 another arch of the tunnel is clearly visible heading towards the Market Inn and past the front (?) of the King Orry Inn still showing on left of the photo. 30.4.40 See the p.c. of [...?....], some nine people looking into tunnel. This shows the direction of T, filled in, as though it ran clear of the cottage no.8. 21.1 41 It would seem that the tunnel (2) passed through this cellar and out the other side (to west) where it joined (no.1) the opening going towards the Market Inn etc. Will enlarge to nearly whole plate'.
