Scope & Content: This view is believed to be part of the 1914 carnival celebrations in Douglas. July that year saw the arrival of two planes, Mr Salmet’s Bleriot and an Avro float plane. The Bleriot paid a visit to King William’s College where Mr Salmet was able to converse with the French language masters. The school Officers Training Corps stand on guard. The first aircraft to land at what today is the site of Ronaldsway Airport, was a Bleriot monoplane flown by the pioneering French aviator, Henri Salmet and took place on Wednesday July 1st, 1914.
