Promenaders on Douglas Promenade, Isle of Man

Scope & Content: Central Promenade, Douglas. To the left is the Castle Mona, built for the Duke of Athol and converted into an hotel in 1832. The row of seaside shops are from 1898. A similar set was eventually built on the other side of the entrance to the Palace Ballroom of which the twin towers show beside the hotel. On the cliff top is the Falcon Cliff Hotel before some of the extensions designed by W A Shimmin for the owner. Beneath it is Palace View Terrace at the start of Palace Terrace.
