Castle Rushen, Castletown, Isle of Man
Date(s): c.1900
Creator(s): Cowen, George Bellett
Scope & Content: Baillie Scott’s Castletown police station under construction in bottom left hand corner of image, there are the first two courses of stone laid for the circular office which now, almost 100 years later, is still in use for the same purpose as intended. It looks like the tradesman’s wooden tool box on the footpath. Look carefully at the stonework for there is a wooden staff used to mark the radius of the curved wall. Across the road the temporary police station is immediately alongside the barbican entrance to the castle.
