Scope & Content: The Douglas Hotel is the former Duke of Athol's house; built about 1750 and still standing. The property was the Duke's principal residence in the Isle of Man until Castle Mona was completed in 1804.

British Commercial Hotel was demolished in 1894 and Hambleton was landlord of the Douglas from 1889 to 1894. The landlord from 1895 was James Ind.
