Plan of proposed new covered market at the intersection of Upper Church Street and Hill Street, Douglas
Date(s): 1880s
Creator(s): Cregeen, Daniel
Scope & Content: Depicts elevation in Hill Street and proposed floor plan of area.
Named St George's Market on plan.
Administration / Biographical History: This plan was designed and presented by Daniel Cregeen CE in 1882. It records that the new market was to be situated on Hill Street, next to St Mary's Catholic Church. This market was never actually built but its design is very similar to the new market which was built on North Quay in 1899. It is possible that the location was changed to lower Douglas despite the site on Hill Street being favoured for its convenience to the surrounding neighbourhood with a growing population.
Daniel Cregeen was also responsible for assorted plans for the Isle of Man Railway Company.
