Scope & Content: This poster features a pen drawing of four men holding instruments and mention that the programme is as performed throughout the United States and Canada and before Her Majesty Queen Victoria and HRH Prince Albert on five different occasions. 'Mr Distin and his sons will perform on their silver sax-horns which were presented to them by Louis Philippe, in Paris, 1846'.
It lists the vocalists and various pieces to be performed including Bellisario, Oh sing to me, Spring Delight, Deco Tu Vieni and many more. Text notes prices and in small print at the foot are details of instruments for sale by Mr Distin.
Administration / Biographical History: The Distin family were an English brass band formed in 1837 by one John Distin, who performed across Britain and America with his sons and wife. Adopting the new saxhorn in the 1840s, the Distins would perform for Queen Victoria and tour America and Canada. They later established their own business manufacturing brass musical instruments.
John Distin died in 1861 and the sons went their own separate ways.
