Scope & Content: The diary begins as a summary of each month during 1892 with mention of the weather, family matters, travels and delivered lectures. Moore writes of the death of his youngest son William in January 1894, 'our little darling breathed his last at 7.25 a.m. on Sunday. Just before he died he said 'oh' and smiled as if he saw a heavenly sight'. Entries relate to his antiquarian interests: on 2 October 1897 'went over in the afternoon to Close-Y-Garey near Rockmount where the work of excavating the elk is going on. It is about 10 feet below the surface, at least'. Refering to becoming the Speaker of the House of Keys on 9 December 1898 Moore writes ' the Keys met and I was elected "speaker"... I had been elected 11 votes to 10!'. Moore covers the visit of King Edward VII wth entourage to the Island in late August 1902 in great detail and recalls witnessing the coronation in Westminster Abbey on 9 August 1902.

Administration / Biographical History: Moore was born on 6 February 1853 at Cronkbourne, Tromode, the son of William Fine Moore and Hannah, nee Curwen. He was privately schooled in Douglas, a preparatory school in Weybridge, Surrey and Rugby and then went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. He gained his Masters degree in 1876. In 1887 he married Louisa Wynn Hughes-Games who bore him Arthur, Helen, Margery and William (born and died 1894). Moore began his working life at Moore's sailcloth factory, Tromode and founded the Cronkbourne Cricket Club for the male workers at the factory. He; became a JP in 1877, was made Captain of the Parish of Onchan in 1885 and elected to the House of Keys representing Middle sheading, being elected to the position of Speaker in 1898. He died on 12 November 1909 at the age of 56 and his remains were buried at Braddan churchyard.
