More reminiscences of T E Brown by his third daughter Dora Brown

Date(s): 1930

Creator(s): Brown, Dora

Scope & Content: The reminiscence begins 'retirement from Clifton to the Isle of Man August 1892'. Earlier in 1892 her father had a bad bout of influenza which had affected his health for a while after. Even when spring came, 'the load of depression lay heavily upon him'. Her father's health improved after a stay on the Isle of Man during May and June. The family moved to 10 Windsor Mount, Ramsey in August. There were many visitors to their home including Sir Hall Caine, Mr Frederick Lamothe, Mr and Mrs Arthur Moore. Dora especially remembers that first autumn back on the Island as they seemed to go to many harvest festivals and tea parties all over the Island. There is a detailed description of a visit to Maughold Vicarage and the family events that had taken place at the church. The writer discusses projects and ideas of T E Brown such as a 'tableaux of Manx home life' at St Paul's Church bazaar, and collected props for the tableaux. There is a description of a walk to the top of Barrule, and latterly mentions her father's death.

Administration / Biographical History: Ann Dora Brown, born 1871, was the third daughter of Thomas Edward Brown and Amelia Stowell. She died unmarried at Bournemouth in November 1955 aged 84.
