Scope & Content: Tyson ackowledges receipt of his daughter's letter of 14 December and relays family news (attending tea party and Oie'l Verrey) before recounting in detail a 'shocking accident' which happened that morning on Kitterland at the Calf of Man. Referring to the wreck of the Brig Lily and subsequent explosion and loss of life, 'there wass a ship wracke on citerland with the storm some said shee had a general cargo But theare wass lot of pouder in her the were take the goods out of he and ther were a number of people on citterland while axcidently fier got to the pouder and Blew the vesel to Bits and kiled a great meny peopel some say thirty others forty put it is not certin But I blevive there is a great many Dead they there is tow pelest men from Castletown Dead the say it made a wonderfull report and was heard at Ballasala stronger then anny three Blasses that ever you heard together and made all the houses in our nabour-hood trimble'.
