Photocopy of diary and photographs of Anders Jespersen's first trip to the Isle of Man and Laxey Wheel June 1949
Date(s): 1949
Scope & Content: Anders visited the Island for a holiday after a year's work in Scotland. The diary covers the dates 06-14 June 1949 with photographs of wheel, surrounding area and valley above the wheel including Snaefell Mine. On the 07 June Anders arrived at Laxey Wheel via the electric tram 'the wheel is there and it is moving!'; in the evening met up with the owner Mr Kneale and learned that 'grandson of wheel engineer, Casement still lives in Douglas, he may well have the original drawings'. Next day Anders visited Casement's grandson but he had no construction drawings. Whilst Anders was on the island he made a full survey of the wheel. Anders also sketched and painted watercolours of Garwick Corn Mill, Laxey Wheel. He visited Silverdale Mill and commented on the water driven roundabout there.
