'The Upper Sulby Valley - An Abandoned Landscape'

Scope & Content: Dissertation with colour illustrations submitted by Centre for Manx Studies student for Diploma in Landscape Interpretation at the University of Liverpool. Volume I contains the full text together with appendices; volume II contains all the figures. References in the text to selected sites relate to archaeological features to be found in appendix 2. The study area comprises a complex landform which defines the upper part of a drainage network. The underlying rocks significantly control the depth of overlying material and together both affect the efficiency with which it naturally drains, which in turn impinges on the vegetational habitats which have evolved. The area is at the limit of agricultural practicability and contains evidence for the success and failure of human intervention. The area has now largely been abandoned.'
