Ship's figurehead, Rushen Abbey

Date(s): n.d.

Place made: Rushen Abbey

Scope & Content: Neatly scratched on the negative across the bottom it says ship’s figurehead, Rushen Abbey. It is not known from whence she came and she certainly stood by the riverside for many decades and then was mounted on a wall inside the grounds. Eventually it was put into store and was on the verge of being cut up for firewood when she was saved by Peter Hill-Heaton who restored her and for many years she stood in his garden in Ramsey. It is now in a collection of figureheads in the UK
