Scope & Content: Contains: lines penned by Max Sugar (Camp Supervisor) to unknown person to serve as an introduction to loose pages 'which are meant for your remembrance of the time spent in Douglas'; signatures of Camp Council members; signatures of the 'housefathers' of the 34 houses; typescript extracts from two books 'Nazi Germay Can't Win' (1939) and 'This Bewildering War' (1940) with inscription to the Camp Commandant by the author, W Neiker, November 1940; musical score for a the opening bars of a jig from the Partita for Flute and Piano, performed as an encore at an October 1940 concert in house 11.
Administration / Biographical History: Central Camp had a brief life, opening in June 1940 with about 2,000 civilian internees held in 34 houses behind Central Promenade, Douglas. By mid 1941 it was closed and went on to become an RAF station. Each house elected a house father; these in turn elected a camp speaker and deputy speaker.
