Weather station at Ballasalla, possibly Rushen Abbey

Scope & Content: Believed to be in the grounds of Rushen Abbey. Greenhouses are visible in the background. Behind the boy on the right of the picture is some sort of weather recording apparatus.

Administration / Biographical History: The Manx Sun newspaper of October 8 1853 advised that Mr James Barman, Clerk to the Council had established a meteorological station at Ballasalla. Monthly returns were submitted to the newspaper for publication.
