Date(s): 1922

Scope & Content: The 1922 R.A.C. Tourist Trophy (TT) motorcar race was the first in eight years and the last motorcar TT to be held on the Isle of Man.

Bentley brought three cream and red coloured cars; Bentley number III was driven W.O. Bentley himself. The weather for the event was appalling, wind, heavy rain and mist reducing visibility to less than 20 yards.

The race was won by a Sunbeam driven by Jean Chassagne (with riding mechanic Robert Laly) in 5hr 24min 50sec averaging 55.78mph.

Bentley was the only team to finish. This photograph came from the family of W.O. Bentley who started the firm.
