Date(s): ?1915
Scope & Content: Douglas Head in the background. Named on the glass plate 'Capt. Kuhl', presumably the man standing with the naval style cap. By comparison with another image in the series he can be further identified as Johannes Kuhl with Douglas Camp number 1754.
The closest match on the ICRC database would appear to be Johannes August Adolf Wilhelm Kuhl with Red Cross information bureau number 4676. He appears on a 1914 list of prisoners with details: age 23. Rank: Vizesteurmann. Kaiserlich Marine (Reserve). Home address: Hoyer, Schleswig-Holstein. He appears in Danish church records, date of birth recorded as 23/8/1891 in Hoyer (Ancestry). A Johannes Kuhl of the right age and Danish nationality appears as 3rd officer aboard the SS Atlanterhavet arriving at New York in the early 1920s.
